Donald Trump Spares UK From His Latest Tariff Hike – At Least For Now

Donald Trump speaks on the phone to Keir Starmer on the day the US-UK trade deal was announced.Donald Trump has handed the UK a temporary reprieve from his latest tariff hikes.The president announced that import taxes on UK steel will remain at 25%, even though they are being increased to 50% for the rest of the world.However, he warned that the British steel imports to America will be treated the same as from other countries after July 9 if the terms of the US-UK trade deal he agreed with Keir Starmer last month are not finalised by then.Under that agreement, tariffs on British steel and aluminium products sold to the United States will be reduced to zero.The prime minister welcomed the president’s announcement on X this morning.He said: “As a result of our landmark deal with the US, UK steel won’t be subject to additional tariffs.
