Evidence from archaeology, satellite mapping, lake sediments and cave stalagmites reveals repeated human settlement during wet phases of the Quaternary. The findings underpin modern Saudi efforts to combat desertification, revive ‘Green Arabia’, and restore degraded land at unprecedented scale nationwide today.
