I Was Stuck In A Fitness Rut – Until I Discovered the 'Tripod' Rule

Woman's feet on a yoga matIt took me years to get back into running, but now that I have, I’m learning to appreciate the importance of strength training even more than I did before. In the past, running was my only exercise – now that I’ve added lunges, squats, and general weightlifting into the mix, I experience far fewer running injuries (almost none).But about a month ago, it happened; a twinge returned to my left knee. Turns out the problem wasn’t running. It was how I placed my foot while squatting, doing Bulgarian splits, and using the leg press. A video from Dr Aaron Horschig at Squat University taught me that the “tripod” stance is key to better lifts; since then, I’ve not only experienced less pain, but also noticed far, far better muscle engagement, especially in my glutes.
