Alex Burghart and Trevor Phillips on Sky News.A Sky News presenter mocked a senior Tory after Labour struck two trade deals where the Tories had failed.Keir Starmer has struck the agreements with India and then America in the last two weeks.That was in sharp contrast with the last Conservative government, which repeatedly spoke of its desire to do deals with both countries but was unable to do so.On Sky this morning, Trevor Phillips told shadow Cabinet Office minister Alex Burghart: “I don’t know quite how to put this, but I will put it this way.“The prime minister can now boast of two deals that you, your leader, when she was trade minister, failed to deliver ,one with the USA and one with India?“You feeling a little bit cheesed off? A bit embarrassed that that Starmer did something that you couldn’t.”But Burghart insisted the Tories would not have signed up to the deals the PM did.He said: “Trevor, it’s easy to sign bad deals.
